Your tax data stays on your device while you prepare.

During normal preparation, tax documents and return data stay in your browser. Built-in e-file is unavailable, and no return is transmitted for filing during preparation.

Standard website requests create limited operational records, such as an IP address and request timestamp. If you contact secure support, the details you choose to send leave your browser. Clearing browser site data can erase your saved project; project-file backup is not available.

What stays on your device

During normal preparation, TakoTax does not send these materials to TakoTax servers:

  • Uploaded tax documents
  • Extracted and manually entered values
  • In-progress return projects
  • Filled forms you generate for review

What TakoTax may receive

Loading and operating a website creates limited operational data such as IP address, request timestamps, browser user-agent, requested resources, and performance signals. TakoTax does not sell tax data or use ad pixels in the preparation flow.

The marketing site (www.tako.tax) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics — a cookieless page-view counter. It tells us which pages people visit and how the site is performing, and never runs on the application origin where you prepare your return. The preparation app (app.tako.tax) loads no third-party analytics or advertising scripts. A security script from our anti-abuse provider (AWS WAF) may run to block automated abuse; it does not track you across sites or profile you.

Local storage responsibility

Your project is saved in browser storage. Clearing site data, using private browsing, switching browsers, or changing devices can make the local project unavailable. Project file export and import are not available yet, so browser storage is not a backup. Keep your source documents and download completed forms when available.

When you contact support

If you use the secure support form, the message and details you choose to provide are sent to TakoTax's support system. Tickets are configured to expire approximately three years after submission; backup copies expire on separate schedules. Share only what is needed to explain the issue, and do not send tax documents or Social Security numbers by ordinary email. See the contact options.
