Limitations

Clear expectations before you start.

TakoTax is designed to be explicit about its boundaries. Review these points before relying on it for a return.

Filing

TakoTax does not submit returns to the IRS or state agencies today. It helps you prepare, review, and download generated forms for separate filing. Built-in e-file is not available until the required implementation, approvals, identifiers, and testing are complete.

Storage

Projects are saved in local browser storage. TakoTax does not provide cloud sync, account recovery, server-side backup, or project file export/import yet. Clearing browser storage permanently deletes the project.

Coverage

Federal, state, input document, and output form support vary. Check coverage before relying on TakoTax for a specific return.

Estimated payments

The estimated-tax safe-harbor calculator can help you estimate a quarterly target. TakoTax does not generate Form 1040-ES vouchers or payment instructions in v1.

Advice

TakoTax is software. It cannot decide whether a tax position applies to you, classify ambiguous income, or respond to tax notices.

Issue reporting

If you find a bug, confusing result, or documentation gap, report it with enough detail to reproduce the issue. Do not send sensitive tax documents or Social Security numbers by email.

Amendments

TakoTax can start an amendment workflow only from a return originally finalized in TakoTax for the current supported tax year. Today it records the finalized snapshot as superseded and provides scenario routing; complete Form 1040-X package generation and download are not available yet. It does not file amendments, compute interest or penalties, or support returns originally prepared elsewhere.
