Pricing
Free to prepare and review.
Local preparation, review, and downloading your filled forms cost nothing today. We have no plans to charge for them. If that ever changes, you'll see the price and agree before you're charged — no surprises. Built-in e-file is not available yet. If e-file launches later, pricing and availability will be published before you authorize any transmission.

Why is preparation free?
Local preparation does not require TakoTax to run document processing or tax calculation servers on your behalf during normal use. The app and its preparation workflow run in your browser.
Why will e-file have a cost?
E-filing would require transmitting data to the IRS and state agencies, maintaining a filing relationship, handling rejections, and providing filing confirmation. Those operations require infrastructure and compliance work that can support a cost.
Will paid plans ever restrict preparation?
We do not currently plan to put existing free features behind a paywall. If that ever changes, we will give advance notice. We do not currently offer subscriptions, free-trial-to-paid conversions, or any auto-renewing charge; if we ever offer a recurring fee, we will obtain your separate express affirmative consent to the recurring terms before charging you, disclose all terms clearly before purchase, and let you cancel at least as easily as you signed up — consistent with the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act and applicable state automatic-renewal laws.
How are e-file fees handled?
Built-in e-file is not available yet. If it launches later, the fee, payment timing, refund policy, and filing scope will be shown before you authorize any transmission. For paid e-file, TakoTax's planned model is a temporary card authorization that is captured only after an IRS Accepted acknowledgement. Timely rejected Form 1040-family returns have a five-calendar-day IRS transmission perfection period after the due date for correction and retransmission; if the return is not accepted in that window, the hold is released and no fee is charged. Card-network hold windows are separate from IRS timing, so the initial card authorization may request Stripe Extended Authorization when available, and a corrected transmission may require a fresh payment authorization if Stripe's returned hold window is still too short. TakoTax does not charge based on a percentage of a refund, does not offer refund anticipation loans, and does not hold taxpayer funds. See the E-file Disclosures for the formal e-file framework.
Is state e-file available?
State e-file is not available yet. The state support page shows current calculation coverage; e-file scope will be published separately if electronic filing is enabled.
