Manual entry
What manual entry is for
Manual entry lets you enter or correct any tax value directly, without uploading a document. It is the fallback when:
- You do not have a digital copy of a document
- A document could not be parsed (scanned image, unsupported form)
- An extracted value is wrong and needs correction
- A form type is not yet supported by ErgoTax
Manual entry is a first-class input method, not a last resort. You can complete your entire return by manual entry without uploading any documents.
Correcting extracted values
After ErgoTax extracts values from an uploaded document, every extracted value is shown in a review screen. You can edit any field directly. Corrections are saved to your local project.
Entering values from scratch
For any form or field not covered by document extraction, you can open the manual entry screen for that form type and enter values directly. ErgoTax exposes the input fields for every form it supports.
Unsupported forms
If your tax situation involves a form that ErgoTax does not yet support, you will need to use that form's values in the fields where they are referenced. For example, if your K-1 income flows to Schedule E, you can enter the Schedule E values manually even if the K-1 form itself is not parsed.
Check the supported forms matrix for current coverage.
