Reviewing data
Why review matters
ErgoTax cannot guarantee that every extracted value is correct. PDF layout variations, form versions, and edge cases can produce wrong values. You are responsible for reviewing all values before generating your forms.
Review is not optional. Even a value that looks correct should be verified against your paper or digital document.
What to check
For each document you upload, review:
- Every monetary value against the corresponding box on your physical form
- Names, employer information, and account numbers for typos or truncation
- Tax year on the document — make sure you have the right year's form
- Federal and state withholding amounts, which are easy to confuse
- Any field flagged by ErgoTax for review (shown with a warning indicator)
Correcting values
Supported fields can be edited directly in the review screen or through manual entry. Changes are saved to your local project, and you can correct values before regenerating forms.
Before generating forms
Before you generate your output forms, do a final check of all input values. Once you generate forms, verify the output forms against your inputs — generated forms show you the result of all your inputs combined, which can surface inconsistencies you did not catch earlier.
ErgoTax does not verify your return
ErgoTax performs calculations based on your inputs. It does not check whether your inputs are correct relative to your actual financial situation. It does not advise whether income is classified correctly, whether a deduction is allowed, or whether you are filing the right forms for your circumstances.
For that kind of review, consult a qualified tax professional.
